Support Raw Milk
This is urgent. The fight for real food continues in North Carolina, and your voice is making a difference.
Earlier this week, a dangerous bill (SB639) threatened to make all raw milk—including herd shares and pet milk—completely illegal in North Carolina. Thanks to your efforts, we’ve made progress—but the battle isn’t over yet.
The Latest:
GOOD NEWS
On May 7, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to continue herd share agreements and to conduct a study on raw milk. This is a huge win. Your calls, emails, and signatures made an impact—lawmakers heard us loud and clear.
BAD NEWS
Just as we were celebrating, an amendment was added that bans the sale of pet milk—a move that strips farmers of one of the few legal avenues still available.
Now, SB639 heads to the Senate Finance Committee and then to the full Senate floor for a final vote. All votes must take place by Thursday, though exact timing is unknown.
What You Can Do Right Now:
Step 1: Call and Email the Senate Finance Committee Chairs Before 1 PM Tomorrow (May 8)
Ask them to remove the pet milk ban from SB639.
Senator David Craven (R)
David.Craven@ncleg.govSenator Tom McInnis (R)

Tell them:
Raw milk is safe when properly labeled.
Farmers should be allowed to sell it.
Consumers should be allowed to choose it.
Step 2: Contact Other Key Legislators
Reach out to these lawmakers and urge them to oppose any effort to ban raw milk, herd shares, or pet milk in North Carolina.

Background & Talking Points
Use these in your calls, emails, and conversations:
The ban in SB639 would harm small family farms, cutting off a vital source of income and customer connection.
It would limit consumer freedom to choose what’s best for their families.
It would reduce local food availability and send food dollars out of North Carolina.
Raw milk has a long tradition of safe, informed use among educated consumers.
This is a step backward for food freedom in America. We must stand up now.
Sample Email to Lawmakers:
Dear Members of the Senate Finance Committee,
I urge you to oppose the raw milk ban included in SB639, particularly the amendment targeting pet milk.
This legislation would severely impact small family farms and remove the right of consumers to make informed choices about their food. Raw milk is a nourishing, time-honored food that many North Carolinians value deeply.
Adults deserve the right to evaluate risks and make their own food decisions. Please stand for freedom, for transparency, and for the viability of small farms.
I respectfully ask that you remove the raw milk ban from the Farm Act.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

We are being heard—let’s keep going.
This is a pivotal moment for food freedom in North Carolina and beyond. Let’s finish strong.
Food and healthy living has always been our thing. We have a strong passion for real food, in its purist form. Food that nourishes and heals the body.
Our parents grew up on farms, going out to milk the cow before school was a normal part of life just one generation ago. I heard their stories of farm life growing up and I wanted that life for my own family someday. For fun I would watch farming, back to the land type of documentaries with the kids as they were growing up. It’s not a shock to me that they have also developed a passion for real food that nourishes the body instead of causing harm. Our kids have been raised from the start to know where their food comes from, and it’s not a surprise to us that they are working towards farming as a lifestyle and way to provide for their future families.
After nearly two decades of reading, watching and being educated by experts in farming; we are excited to be on this journey! We are restoring the land, and bringing quality and wholesome food to the families in our local community. Our kids are learning so much along the way, as we help them learn as they go.
The world needs more good farmers.
